We miss Coachella.
POETS RECLAIM THE (PROVERBIAL) STAGE ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE
The gentrification of the Lower East Side may have forced many of its young artist residents to seek lower rent in the outer boroughs but no one can argue that the neighborhood still serves as a venue for artistic fellowship. Take a stroll through it’s narrow streets and you will hear the drone of guitars strummed by the leads of independent bands, on any given evening you can stop into Cakeshop or Piano’s to catch a quick set. But how often do you peer into the window of a bar or café and see an attentive audience listening to spoken word poetry? I can count on one hand how many times I have beheld such a sight- and I don’t even need all of my fingers. Enter: The Broad Axe Poetry Series at Cocoa Bar.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A MORPH. This Friday (February 22nd) The Culture Whore and Descent drop another party that will bring out the animal within. With performances by some of the wildest beasts in town, mating calls by our favorite DJs and jungle visions from Peacebitch, ∆ N 1 M 0 R P H S is going to transform you into the rabid mongrel you’ve always wanted to be.
TONIGHT. New York Kills artists are continuing their run of themed gallery shows with BURNT REYNOLDS. In their words, “the evening will be filled with flame-licked art, scorching-hot music, and drinks so good you’ll want to burn down the house!” Yes, please.
